After foodgawking my eyes out, and spotting these incredibly fun looking cakes- I HAD to make my own attempt at it. I got my Eggless Deserts book out, and made a basic sponge cake, with a funfetti twist! Although I have to admit that I didn’t love the cake recipe. There are better sponge cake recipes. But the concept is what was, well- fun! Great for any kid, birthdays, casual tea time snack- anything at all! And I threw in a few milk chocolate buttons to boot!

Ingredients:

1. ½ tin (200 grams) condensed milk
2. 140 gms self raising flour
3. 1 tsp baking powder
4. 1/2 tsp baking soda
5. 60 ml melted butter
6. 1 vanilla pod
7. 75 ml water
8. ¼ cup confetti sprinkles
9. ½ cup milk chocolate buttons

Method:
1. Preheat the oven to 200*c.
2. Sieve the flour, baking powder and baking soda together. Mix the flour mixture, condensed milk, melted butter, essence and 75 ml of water and beat well. Add the coloured decorative balls (commonly used as a decorative topping) and a handful of chilled chocolate buttons. I used the diary milk buttons which I got as a gift the day before and just HAD to use!!
3. Pour the mixture into a greased and dusted 150 mm. (6″) diameter tin. Make a cutesie face or any other design on the cake to guarantee a smile!
4. Bake in a hot oven at 200 degree c (400 degree f) for 10 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to 150 degree c (300 degree f) and bake for a further 10 minutes.
5. When ready, take out from the oven and leave for 1 minute. Invert the tin over a rack and tap sharply to remove. Allow to cool. Slice and enjoy!
